History of the Mary Rose
1. The Mary Rose is a 16th-century warship which was built for King Henry VIII and served in the Battle of Solent in 1545.
 

2. It was the flagship of the English fleet and featured a full-length upper deck, three masts and a total of 91 guns.
 

3. The Mary Rose sank in the Battle of Solent, but was rediscovered in 1971 by archaeologists and salvaged in 1982.
 

4. The remains of the Mary Rose were moved to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and opened to the public as the Mary Rose Museum in 2013.
 

5. The museum features thousands of artefacts that were recovered from the seabed, including cannons, pottery, carpenters’ tools, leather shoes and wooden chests.
 

6. Visitors can explore the remains of Henry VIII's favourite ship and learn about life at sea during Tudor times through interactive displays.
 

The Museum's Collection
The Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth houses the world’s largest collection of genuine Tudor artefacts, providing visitors with a unique insight into the life and times of Henry VIII and the people of Tudor England. The museum's collection includes a wealth of items, ranging from everyday objects such as pottery, tools and clothing to more specialized objects like weapons and navigational instruments.
